A plum day out for all at Worcester racecourse

Thousands of racegoers enjoyed a perfect day in the sunshine at the second annual Pershore Plum Festival raceday last Friday.  Commercial Manager of Worcester Racecourse, Jenny Cheshire said:

“What a great success -  it was lovely to see the racecourse as a sea of purple, as so many visitors sported the colour this year.  Even the Racing Post used the colour for the race listings!  Attendances were well up on last year and the fine weather, the eight races, the free children’s entertainment and the plums in abundance ensured everyone had a good time.”

Even the first two past the post in the feature race , the Land O Plums Chase: Rowdy Rampage trained by Paul Nicholls and ridden by Darryl Jacobs and second Grovemere ridden by Paddy Brennan didn’t disappoint the cheering crowds as they were both sporting purple silks – definitely the colour of the day.

Angela Tidmarsh, Chair of the Pershore Plum Festival said:

“Its marvellous to think that plums (especially Pershore Purples) have been responsible for the creation of this outstanding event.  People travelled from all over the Country to enjoy this purple spectacle and some excellent racing. The history of the Land O plums chase and Pershore racecourse has opened up the modern day Plum Festival to a whole new range of people and I hope that  they will return again and again to enjoy our plummy events”
